Kyle D. Smith is a senior attorney at Melmed Law Group, where he handles high-stakes employment disputes throughout California in both state and federal courts, including matters involving appellate practice.

Kyle earned his Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law in 2011, the same year he passed the California Bar Examination. While at UCLA, he served as a managing editor for two law journals and worked as a judicial extern for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

For the past decade, Kyle’s practice has focused on representing employees in litigation, with a particular emphasis on wage-and-hour cases—including complex class actions and Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) matters. Kyle’s experience spans the full lifecycle of individual, class, and representative litigation.

Beyond his day-to-day practice, Kyle has pursued advanced post-graduate advocacy and dispute-resolution training. He holds the “Advocate” designation from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), earned through intensive programs on depositions, trial skills, and persuasive advocacy. He also has extensive experience in mediations and has completed the week-long “Mediating the Litigated Case” program at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

Kyle is deeply invested in the development of California employment law. He has submitted advocacy letters to the California Supreme Court in matters including Fuentes v. Empire Nissan, Inc. and Leeper v. Shipt, Inc., and he writes extensively online about employment law topics. His writing has reached millions of readers.

Kyle is committed to serving clients, class members, and aggrieved employees with diligence, integrity, and results-driven advocacy. With the experience and support of Melmed Law Group P.C., he has the knowledge and resources to prosecute complex wage-and-hour, class, PAGA, and individual employment matters effectively—and to protect the interests of every person the firm represents.
